ABC Collection

The ABC Pictures are the heart and soul of my literacy program. Every day in my kindergarten class we begin by "chanting" our class-made ABC book. We chant the names, the sounds, and identify the pictures. "a", apple, /a/, "b" butterfly, /b/, and so forth. The ABC book is created by water coloring the ABC pictures, cutting them out, and gluing them onto sheets of brightly colored construction paper. Explicit teaching of the letters and sounds each day is the key to successful literacy acquisition for our young students.

The ABC Wall Chart is printed on heavy white paper with vibrant colors. It is laminated for your convenience and ready to display in your writing center. Many teachers want more than one of these 11" by 17" charts to place around the room. The pictures are the same as those used in the ABC book.

The ABC Frieze utilizes the same pictures as those in the ABC book. In this product, the capital letters are printed on the cards in addition to the lowercase letters. The 26 cards are printed on lightweight bright white paper. The cards are printed in black ink and should be water colored and laminated before displaying in the classroom.

The Dilly Dally Dictionary introduces young children to beginning dictionary skills. There are 26 pages illustrated with pictures from my ABC book and 9 blank rectangles to print words and names inside. This book is suitable for the latter half of kindergarten or the beginning of first grade. The 27 black line masters may be copied, colored, and bound together. New words should be added to the dictionary throughout the remainder of the school year.

ABC Color and Print is the final product in the ABC Collection. Students color the ABC pictures and practice printing the capital and lowercase letters. The students may color the pictures in class or you may want to send them home as homework. In either case, the pages should be saved and bound into individual booklets for the children to take home and share with their parents.
